Replacing a missing tooth is easier than everyone thanks to a single implant. If you have lost a tooth because you happen to damage it in a car accident, while wrestling with your kids, or by failing to treat a dental infection, you have options beyond simply replacing it with a denture. While a removable prosthetic like a denture is certainly a possibility and can be effective, there are distinct drawbacks with using this solution. Mainly the fact that it is designed to come out and will not provide you with the same level of stability or security that you find with a natural tooth.
On the other hand, a single implant behaves exactly like a natural tooth would because this is the only solution that gives you a replacement root in addition to a replacement tooth. It is the only dental prosthetic that is surgically placed to replace a single tooth and while this does translate into a longer recovery time, it also means that you will have the benefit of a full set of seemingly natural and healthy teeth for the rest of your lifetime.
Benefits of Replacing a Tooth with a Single Implant
We encourage you to call our office and schedule an examination to discuss the incredible benefits of dental implants. In the meantime, here are some that apply to virtually all of our patients.
- Dental implants look like natural teeth. We take great pains to ensure that your new tooth (crown) is the right size and shape. We take measurements and pictures so that your new tooth looks natural and fits perfectly with the surrounding teeth. We also use a shade card to ensure that it is the perfect shade of white to blend in. One shade off can make a serious difference, so we are meticulous about this.
- You can eat whatever you want. There are no food restrictions once you have healed from dental implant surgery. Since the tooth is secured in place using a new root system, you can eat a crunchy salad, bite into a juicy steak or apple, without ever worrying that your tooth will become loose or fall out, as is common with dentures.
- There are no extra care steps. All you need to do to keep an implant in good condition is to brush and floss your teeth like normal and to visit our office for regular dental care. There are no added steps required like there are with dentures, making this the solution that will not add time to your daily routine.
- Your other teeth are not impacted. If you were to replace your teeth with a denture, it would be held in place using wires and hooks. If you replace your tooth with a dental bridge, crowns will be placed on the surrounding teeth so that they can serve as anchors for your bridge. To place a crown, some of the tooth’s enamel will need to be removed, forever altering your teeth. With a single implant, the tooth is supported by an implant secured to the jawbone so that your surrounding teeth are not altered in any way.
